>>>First time surfing, so was coming solo (staying in a 6 bed dorm) as a complete surfing beginner. From the moment I got there everything was super organized- from within the camp/accommodation to the surf lessons itself…which pleasantly surprised me as I arrived the day the camp opened. The dorms were spotlessly cleaned every day with a fresh beach and shower towel. Very spacious as well, with good sized storage for each of the guests. I stayed on the top bunk which had nice easy stairs to get up… and the beds themselves were built into the walls, so no annoying creaks from the bed above! The rest of the camp has a cool vibe about it, an impressive building within itself with huge open courtyards, a big pool to relax next to and lots of sofas and swings to chill on after a long day in the waves. The food is amazing, especially the breakfast (which is included) with the best juices – beetroot, apple and lime is worth a try. From a surfing perspective bearing in mind I was there for ‘surf school day 1’ all the instructors were really good and super patient, they know the beaches and waves really well, we stuck to Weligama beach. But the other more experienced guys were taken to other beaches, depending on the conditions, to suit their level of surfing. You can sign up to every surf session via a website that you will be given a log in to once you check in, so everyone knows where and when their next surf will be… super efficient way of doing it. There are so many things to do if your not a surfer- daily yoga classes, by a great yoga instructor which come included in the room price. Kima’s location is also good- close to the Centre of Weligama, just a short walk to the beach, healthy restaurants and great coffee bars. All aspects of Kima exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
